All of today's superheroes and villains can trace their DNA back to a few ancient villagers, who ate the seeds of a mysterious plant giving them superhuman powers.

Krondor reading about the Power Plant

The Power Plant (acacia fantastic us) is a supernatural plant that can grant superpowers to anyone who does not have powers. It is the main source of superpowers in the Thunderverse. Its seeds alter DNA, granting powers that are passed down through generations. The type of seed consumed determines whether powers manifest with heroic alignment (blue seeds) or villainous alignment (red seeds).

History[]

Ancient villagers found and ate the seeds of a mysterious plant, known as the Power Plant, which gave them superpowers. The seeds from the blue pods turned them into superheroes whilst the seeds from the red pods turned them into supervillains. The ancient villagers are ancestors of current superheroes and supervillains and is how they got their superpowers. The Power Plant has been guarded by the Hero League for centuries and is currently kept by the longest serving superhero, Thunder Man.

In The Thundermans Return, the V-Team pose as superheroes so they can search for the Power Plant and use it to morph people to make an army of supervillains. After the V-Team replaced the T-Force, the V-Team search their headquarters to try and find it. Phoebe and Max figure out they are villains and they try and stop them so they can get fired and get their team back but the V-Team notice them and tie them up to find where the Power Plant is but they do not what it is so the V-Team go to Hiddenville to get the Power Plant from Thunder Man.

The V-Team go to The Thundermans' Home to get the Power Plant from Hank. Hank lies and claims he does not know what the Power Plant is so She-Crab shows a video of Phoebe and Max trapped in a booth in the Mayhem Cafe. Hank gives the Power Plant so that the V-Team tell them where Phoebe and Max are. The V-Team try a seed from a red pod on a squirrel to test if it works, which gave the squirrel red eyes and fire breath. The V-Team leave with the Power Plant and lie about telling the Thundermans where Phoebe and Max are. The V-Team put a dome-like structure over Hiddenville so that the Thundermans cannot follow them.

When the V-Team leave, a blue seed pod drops out of the Power Plant. The seeds from the blue seed pod can turn people into superheroes and The Thundermans plan on giving seeds to people so they can use all their powers to break the dome so they can rescue Phoebe and Max. They gather people at Hiddenville Park and give powers to Cherry, Oyster, Gideon, Mrs. Wong and Principal Bradford and break a piece of the dome, which allowed Chloe to teleport the Thundermans out of Hiddenville to rescue Phoebe and Max.

The V-Team go to Mount Metroburg, the highest point in Metroburg to launch a large drone to rain red-powered seeds down on everyone to morph them into an army of supervillains. Krondor grinds the seeds into dust and puts it a seed container in the containment hatch on the drone. The V-Team also get their fathers to watch how a real evil plan looks like. Before Dark Mayhem Jr. launches the drone, The Thundermans are teleported by Chloe to Mount Metroburg. The villains and the Thundermans fight on Mount Metroburg. The Thundermans thought they took care of everyone but Dark Mayhem Jr. climbs up the cliff and presses the button allowing the drone to fly before he is frozen by Max. Chloe teleports with Phoebe and Max on the drone and Max disables the power on the drone with Phoebe using her telekinesis to remove the seed container from the containment hatch. Before the drone exploded, Chloe teleports with Phoebe and Max to Mount Metroburg and Max gives the seed container back to Hank.

Known Seed Eaters[]

  • Ancient villagers - A group of ancient villagers who found the power plant and ate the seeds from either blue or reds pods granting them superpowers and superhero or supervillain affiliation.
  • Cherry Seinfeld - Cherry gained the power to generate sparks out of her fingers.
  • Oyster - Oyster was able to super burp with great power and use it to knock people back.
  • Gideon - Gideon got an enlarged iron fist on his right hand.
  • Mrs. Wong - Mrs. Wong was able to turn into a pink human tornado and spin extremely fast.
  • Principal Bradford - Principal Bradford turned into a blue skinned monster man with huge muscles and gained superhuman strength.
  • Squirrel - The squirrel the V-Team tested the plant on gained red eyes and fire breath after eating a red-powered seed.

Powers[]

  • DNA Alteration/Power Bestowal: The seeds alter a user's DNA to grant superpowers, which are now typically inherited from superpowered individuals. Superpowers derive from ancient villagers who ate seeds that were passed down through generations. Those that ate blue seeds gained superpowers and became superheroes while those that ate red seeds gained superpowers and became supervillains.
  • Evil Inducement: The red seeds are capable of turning anyone without superpowers evil and intaking supervillain powers turns the user evil. In Come What Mayhem, Phoebe intakes Dark Mayhem's superpowers without knowing it would make her evil. This is a likely result from the Power Plant as Dark Mayhem's superpowers originate from his ancestors who ate red seeds, which gives him supervillain-aligned powers. The red seeds not only grant superpowers but also bias the user towards villainous behavior resulting in Dark Mayhem's superpowers being "naturally evil". This is similar to what the V-Team attempt of raining down red seeds from the Power Plant to make an army of supervillains in The Thundermans Return.

Effects[]

  • True Sight: In Haunted Thundermans, it was revealed all superheroes (and presumably supervillains) have the power to see and interact with ghosts which could be due to the blue seeds of the Power Plant also giving all users and anyone related with superhero DNA the superpower 'The Gift' (Mediumship).
    • The Haunted Hathaways show people who live in a haunted house are able to see the ghosts who haunt it and see other ghosts as well, but only if those other ghosts are inside the house. Certain humans have "The Gift" to see ghosts.
  • Accelerated Early Development: As shown with Chloe in A Hero Is Born and Phoebe vs. Max: The Sequel, babies born from superpowered parents experience rapid growth spurts and can be born within a day. They also receive a temporary 'baby power' that is removed after they have completed their final growth spurs and is replaced with a permanent superpower. This effect on supervillains with supervillain-derived powers from the red seeds is not mentioned and is unknown.
  • Superpower Evolution: Superheroes with superpowers coming from the blue seed from the Power Plant can inherit or gain additional superpowers naturally as they grow or in certain situations. Barb's electrokinesis developed when she met Hank at a part in Metroburg during their kiss which mentioned in Parents Just Don't Thunderstand. Thundersense is a power that comes as some members of the Thunderman Family grow. This effect on supervillains with supervillain-derived powers from the red seeds is not mentioned and is unknown.
    • Power Inheritance: Superheroes with superpowers coming from the blue seed from the Power Plant can inherit powers from their parents as Hank inherited his Flight and presumably Super Strength from his father Pop Pop Thunderman. Max and Phoebe were also stated to inherited their heat breath power from their great grandmother, Matilda Joe Thunderman. Supervillains have this effect too as Dark Mayhem Jr. has Heat Vision/Laser Vision from his father Dark Mayhem and She-Crab has a Pincer Claw like her father King Crab.
    • Thundersense: Max and Phoebe have the ability to sense danger before it occurs. However, it is not always specific enough to tell what the danger is. Hank obtain this ability when he was 12. Since Barb acquired it despite not being related to the Thundermans by blood, and not through marriage, it's possible her electrical abilities play a role, or that it is a power that could be developed by anyone under the right circumstances.
    • Faulty Powers: Chloe got hit by a fast digital gamma energy ball that made her experience her aunt Mandy's Invisibility. Phoebe manage to make her visible again but she cause her mutation activate the Thunderman Family DNA and Chloe is going to experience all of her families' superpowers, with Nora's heat vision, Billy's super speed, Hank's flight, and Barb's electrokinesis. Max attempted to reverses the energy ball's effects and gives Chloe her old power back, but he caused her to uses new superpowers like Magnetokinesis and Shapeshifting. Thunderford manage to find a cure for her to reverse the effects of her new powers.
  • Twin Power: All twins born from superpowered parents with superpowers have the same permanent powers. They also have a unique twin power that activates when a pair of twin superheroes connects in a specific way. In The Thunder Games, The Hipster Twins' twin power was Pyrokinesis and the Thunder Twins first activate their EMP Generation by holding hands which bypassed Balfour's nanochips on them.
  • Brainwash Immunity: In Save the Date, it was revealed that supes are immune to brainwashing and Brain Freeze's hypnotic speakers to brainwash Secret Shores into following the Mastermind would not work on Phoebe, Max or Chloe. This may have been shown in Thundermans: Banished! where the Brainwasher XL was used to brainwash Hiddenville into being Candi Falconman's friend and was used on Friends of Thunder Twins but possibly could not have been used to brainwash Candi's parents or Phoebe and Max. However, supes are not immune to being controlled as they can be possessed by ghosts and Mastermind's Chip-Chucker which shoots microchips triggering a switch when it lands on a target to become evil has shown to work on Max and Captain Perfect.

Applications[]

  • Anti-Superpower Gadgets: There are several power-suppressing gadgets shown on individuals with superpowers. This might be possible by these gadgets interacting with superhero and supervillain DNA that come from seeds of the Power Plant. These gadgets are:
    • Anti-Superpower Ankle Bracelet: The main power-suppressing gadget used in The Thundermans was an Anti-Superpower Ankle Bracelet which when worn the user is unable to use their superpowers and is hard to remove without assistance. The Hero League's power zappers ("Orange is the New Max") and Villain League's depowering clamps ("A Hero Is Born") were shown to have similar that work the same way.
    • Nanochips: Balfour's nanochips prevented Nora from using her heat vision, Billy's super speed, and Chloe's teleportation. Balfour could also activate their superpowers with his controller.
    • Brain Freeze's gadget: In Save the Date, a villain with presumably no superpowers called Brain Freeze has a gadget that fires a projectile causing the target to experience brain freeze when they attempt to use their superpowers temporarily.
    • Kitty Klaw's spark device: In Not So Fast and Furious, Kitty Klaw steals a spark device that once wrapped around individuals it causes a brief electric spark on them when attempting to use their superpowers.
  • DNA Scanner: In A Hero Is Born, Lady Web used a device to confirm that Max possesses superhero DNA, likely originating from the blue seeds of the Power Plant passed down through the ancestors of the Thunderman Family. This aligned with Dr. Colosso claiming he captured Thunder Man's son to the rest of the supervillains.
  • Power-Sapping Orb: In Thundermans: Secret Revealed, the world's first power-sapping developed by Dark Mayhem and his evil Villain League associates is shown to be able to absorb superpowers, keep them, and later restore them or give the powers to other people. This could be a result of the Power Plant and how the orb is able to deactivate or re-activate superhero or supervillain DNA that originates from the blue or red seeds of the Power Plant.
  • Hero League: The Hero League have devices (including simulation devices to fake removing superpowers) capable of removing superpowers from superheroes permanently.
    • In Thundermans: Banished, President Kickbutt uses a device to simulate the removal of the Thunderman Family superpowers to convince people in Hiddenville that the Thundermans no longer have superpowers.
    • In Thundercover, it is revealed the Hero League can undo the effects when blue seeds are eaten as they had Cherry Seinfeld, Principal Bradford, and Mrs. Wong’s powers removed.
    • Super Undooper: In Cherry Bad Things, it was revealed Cherry still had her superpower and had to get it removed as she is not trained on using them. Phoebe orders a Super Undooper device which permanently removes Cherry's superpower.
    • Disguise-alizer: In The Parent Zap, the Hero League created a device that can change appearance to anybody. Max and Phoebe used it to disguise themselves as their parents and discover they have their parent's powers. When Barb and Hank use the disguise-alizer to turn into Phoebe and Max, they accidently activated the twin power EMP Generation and cause a small explosion.

Weaknesses[]

  • Superpower Immunity: Materials and related superpowers naturally can be immune or block the effects of superpowers produced and related from the Power Plant.
    • Thundertanium: Thundertanium is a type of metal that is often used as a counter against superpowers to imprison people with superpowers. Super Strength, Freeze Breath, and Heat Breath are ineffective against it.
    • Pincer Claw: King Crab has a Pincer Claw that is unaffected by any superpower. It has blocked Super Strength, Telekinesis, Freeze Breath and Heat Breath.
    • Candy-Coat: Candi Falconman is "candi-coated" due to her superpower of Candy Manipulation meaning superpowers do not work on her.
  • Achilles Comet: In Going Wonkers, it is revealed that when the Achilles Comet passes the Earth, it directly affects superhero powers as the comet interferes with the Earth's magnetic fields causing superhero powers to act out of control and happen unintentionally. This could be a result of a disruption in superhero DNA from the blue seeds of the Power Plant that were passed through generations. The comet could possibly affect supervillain powers from the red seeds of the Power Plant but has not been confirmed.
  • Flamingo Flu: In Phoebe vs. Max: The Sequel, it is revealed there was a virus within the superhero community and infected people physically by transforming into a flamingo but there is a super bug that is given to superheroes to fight it and prevents the effects. The Power Plant may be an influence of the virus as it specifically targets superhero DNA derived from blue seeds of the Power Plant. The flamingo flu effect on supervillains with supervillain-derived powers from the red seeds is not mentioned and is unknown.
  • Malvexium: In Thunder in Paradise, it is revealed there is a rare element called Malvexium that permanently destroys the superpowers of superheroes and supervillains if they come into contact with it. This is likely a result from the Power Plant as Malvexium could directly disrupt or destroy superhero or supervillain DNA permanently preventing the use of superpowers.

Associations[]

  • Evil Phase: Superheroes can undergo an evil phase, while having heroic alignment along with their superpowers, and grow up to become a supervillain despite being raised in a family of superheroes and having superhero DNA. Max went through this but overcame it in Thundermans: Secret Revealed.
    • In Thundermans: Banished!, Candi Falconman is the daughter of two superheroes with candy superpowers but uses them for evil. She went through an evil phase like Max but still remains evil despite coming from a superhero background.
    • In A Midsummer Night's Scheme, Penny Perfect was also going through an evil phase but with the help from Max and his previous experience of going through an evil phase she agrees to stop doing villainous activities.
  • Affiliation Shifting: Mike Evilman used to be a good guy before he started hanging out with Dark Mayhem could be as a result of his superpowers originating from blue seeds and having superhero affiliation but users have control on being good or evil. This may explain why he had an evil eyepatch, which had Evilinium, a liquid substance that amplify his evil instincts and, why he helped the Hero League with Phoebe's superhero training in Evil Never Sleeps after retiring as a supervillain.

Trivia[]

  • Hank vowed to the Hero League that he would protect and keep the Power Plant a secret. It was kept hidden inside the penguin butler statue that the Thundermans use to change the portrait in their home.
  • The Thundermans use "supes" and "non-supes" to distinguish between people with superpowers (originating from the Power Plant) and those without.
  • The Power Plant is similar to the Red Bloom in Mech-X4.
  • Animals can be granted superpowers as the squirrel that ate a red seed of the Power Plant was still seen with fire breath and red eyes on the roof of The Thundermans' Home.
  • Cherry Seinfeld had her superpower from eating a blue seed of the power plant removed permanently in Cherry Bad Things.
